Experience
Michael has more than 30 years of life insurance experience gained in the Asia-Pacific region and in Europe. He formerly led the North Asian life insurance consulting practice of Watson Wyatt, with responsibility for business in Hong Kong, Mainland China, Taiwan, South Korea, and Japan. He was a member of Watson Wyatt’s global management team.
Michael has extensive knowledge of Asia, having advised clients in all major insurance markets in the region since 1997 across a range of subject matter. His main areas of focus include mergers and acquisitions, financial reporting, strategy, product and distribution, and risk and capital management. Michael has advised on IPOs and numerous M&A transactions in the Asia-Pacific region, both for sellers and buyers. An experienced project manager, he has led and managed some of the largest and most complex life insurance consulting projects undertaken in Asia.
Michael held a number of senior positions at Ageas. As chief actuary of Muang Thai Life, Ageas’ joint venture in Thailand, he was responsible for all aspects of the actuarial function and was a member of the ExCo and various committees, including chairing the product development committee. He also held positions as chief marketing officer at Etiqa, Ageas’ Malaysian joint venture, and chief of staff to the Group CEO in Belgium, working at the highest level across the insurance, retail, commercial, and merchant banking portfolios.
Michael previously established and managed the Actuarial & Insurance Management Solutions practice for PricewaterhouseCoopers in Scotland.
